Kloppende vinger
Ondertussen geneest mijn aangenaaide vinger langzaam. TΓ© langzaam.

Life is about the journey, not the destination
Ik kreeg een prachtig zelfgemaakte en ingelijste gelprint met de tekst: Life is about the journey, not the destination.

It is the journey that counts
It is the journey that counts, not the destination.

π¬π§ Coin-Dropping Week
A week that danced by with unexpected clarity. βHuh, itβs Friday already?β I realized yesterday morning. A few seconds later: βI havenβt posted a single blog.β Nothing. Nada. Not a blog word written this week, and honestly, I hadnβt even thought about it.
The days flew by, and I danced through them. Gloriously. Even saying goodbye to my daughter β often a trigger for that gnawing empty feeling β didnβt knock me off balance. The train is running smoothly, and itβs a week full of coin drops.
Tiny moments of insight, new plans, great conversations. Challenges that stretch me beyond comfort. Iβll count and organize them next week, but for now, I feel rich.
A throbbing finger
Meanwhile, my stitched-up finger is healing β far too slowly. It throbs, it burns, it stingsβ¦ and, well, it looks like a penis. Sorry, but ever since my son said it out loud, I canβt unsee it. The skin, after countless plasters on and off, is now so thin it canβt bear a thing. Singaporeβs humid heat doesnβt help. Nor does the fact that a bit of bone was scraped off. At a recent drinks night, I shared my tale and nearly knocked a friend off her barstool. Oops.
No worries β I wonβt flash the photo at you unsolicited. But if you absolutely must see it, just say the word.
Creativity is in the air (and the fingers)
Thereβs always a recurring theme in my life, and this week it was creativity and AI. On Monday, I attended a session by architect-turned-artist Parul, exploring βInspiring Creativity.β
What is creativity? How do you cultivate it in work and life? And to what extent does AI cross into that space?

The conversation quickly leaned toward AI, and I found it interesting that it became a right-or-wrong debate rather than a creative exploration. AI is here to stay. And yes, it can help you create. But creativity isnβt just a skill β itβs a state of being. A delicious, enriching process.
My friend Chad (aka ChatGPT) can write a blog for me based on a prompt. But that doesnβt get me into FLOW. My brain doesnβt throb or tingle from building sentences or chasing ideas. And I donβt feel proud of the outcome. Using Chad to translate my blog into English? Huge timesaver. Thatβs time I can spend making, doing, or learning something new.
In a podcast I listened to, AI was described as a threat to creative professions. The deeper fear wasnβt that AI becomes more human, but that we start to act more robotic β outsourcing our words, our images, even our opinions. It strengthened my resolve to stay original. To put the process of creating front and center. And to keep encouraging others to do the same.
Creativity that hits home
I was also moved by the creativity of a dear Singapore friend who is soon returning to the Netherlands. At her farewell dinner, where I gifted her a homemade memory game with shared photos, she surprised us all with personal keepsakes.
βLife is about the journey, not the destination.β
Mine was a beautiful framed gel print with the words: βLife is about the journey, not the destination.β She explained that making these mementos had helped her process her goodbye to Singapore. So moving. As the recipient, I felt truly seen β and no AI can replicate that.

It is the journey that counts
My brilliant teammate and I made exciting new SingaporeandYou plans this week. A bit of recalibration, using a few of those coin drops.
And the third edition of our E-Magazine is nearly ready β going live by Monday.
Someone recently called it βthe most beautiful Singapore magazine,β both in content and design. Another asked, admiringly: βHow do you make this on your own?β Compliments I let in, with gratitude. These arenβt just productions. Theyβre creations. And no matter the end result, I truly enjoy the process.
And so it clicks
As I write this, I realize how many of those coins have clicked into place. Creativity is a process, and a state of being. Itβs raw, human, unique β and within reach for anyone. Because creating β truly creating β is also uncomfortable. Messy. Awkward. It throbs, it stings, it itches. Just like my finger. Something is being created there too. Though, Iβll admit, Iβm not enjoying that particular journey. But hey β every rule has its exception.
So in the end, it still clicks. Just like my finger.
